📖 What is HONK?

A VTuber creation tool by DreamToaster (Tyler T) that animates a PNGTuber's mouth using only mic audio. Instead of bones or rigging, you import images of your character's mouth drawn for different sounds, and HONK swaps between them as you talk. It also supports blinking, eyes that follow the cursor, and crisp pixel-art display. Windows only, and sold as a paid download on itch.io (check the store page for pricing).

💡 When to Use It

Use it when you can't budget for a Live2D model commission but want to start chatting streams as a VTuber right away with art you drew yourself. Draw just a few mouth shapes and your character moves with your voice—a good fit for retro game streaming with a pixel-art character, or late-night radio-style streams with only a mic and no webcam. With no face tracking, you can focus on talking without worrying about head angle or room lighting.

🚀 How to Use

1. Step 1: Buy HONK on its itch.io store page (dreamtoaster.itch.io/honk), then download and launch the Windows version.
2. Step 2: In your drawing app, draw your character's mouth in shapes for different sounds (like "ah" and "ee") and export each mouth as a separate image file.
3. Step 3: Import the exported mouth images into HONK along with your character, then talk into your mic to check how the mouths switch (set up blinking and eye movement as needed).
4. Step 4: In OBS, add a "Game Capture" source, set the mode to "Capture specific window," and select the HONK.exe window.
5. Step 5: Apply a filter such as Chroma Key to the captured source to remove the background, then place your character anywhere on your stream layout.
