📖 What is Live2D Cubism?

The industry-standard modeling software for turning 2D illustrations into a moving VTuber model. Set meshes and deformers on layered artwork, then build in blinking, lip sync, head tilt and hair sway (physics) parameter by parameter. The free FREE edition caps you at 100 art meshes and 30 parameters but lets you try the full workflow, while the unrestricted PRO edition offers an Indie license for individuals (monthly, yearly or three-year, with a student discount). It runs on Windows and Mac, and exported models can be driven by tracking apps such as VTube Studio.

💡 When to Use It

Use it when you want artwork you drew yourself to move as a VTuber avatar. By adding motion to parts such as the eyes, mouth and head, you can create blinking, mouth movement and head sway. Most of the professional models used by VTuber agencies are made in Live2D, making it the standard tool for 2D avatar production.

1. Step 1: Download Live2D Cubism Editor from the official site (live2d.com) — the FREE plan costs nothing
2. Step 2: Load the PSD file of artwork you separated into layers in Photoshop or similar into Cubism Editor
3. Step 3: Use warp deformers (the tools that bend and stretch parts) to add movement to each part
4. Step 4: Load the finished model into a streaming app such as VTube Studio and combine it with face tracking
