📖 What is Puppet3?

A free mascot app for live streaming that lip-syncs and blinks to audio from your mic, text-to-speech apps, or call apps. It works just by registering a set of four variant images, such as “eyes open, mouth closed”, and with Alt+0–9 shortcuts you can switch between up to 10 mascots, with sound effects. It also supports transparent backgrounds and adjustments to size scale and blink frequency. Works on Windows 7 to 10, open source under GPL-3.0 (author: 獅子座☆B型).

💡 When to Use It

Use it for faceless chatting streams or game streaming when you want a mascot that acts as your stand-in in a corner of the screen. Because it lip-syncs to your mic, viewers can easily tell when you're talking, and if you also have it react to text-to-speech voices like Bouyomi-chan, it works as a character that reads out chat. Switching to a surprised face and the like with Alt plus a number key makes reaction effects easy too.

🚀 How to Use

1. Step 1: From the Releases page on GitHub, download the zip for “Puppet3G” or “Puppet3R” (only the bundled characters differ; the features are the same), extract it, and install with the setup.exe inside
2. Step 2: Prepare four PNGs of the same size: “eyes open, mouth closed (目あき口とじ)”, “eyes closed, mouth closed (目とじ口とじ)”, “eyes open, mouth open (目あき口あき)”, and “eyes closed, mouth open (目とじ口あき)” (if you can't draw them yourself, you can make them with “Character Nantoka-ki (キャラクターなんとか機)”)
3. Step 3: Right-click the mascot → “Customize (カスタマイズ)”, drag and drop the four images, and register sound effects (MP3) too if needed. Right-click → “Settings (設定)” to adjust image size scale, movement speed, and blink frequency
4. Step 4: Add a “Window Capture” source in OBS and select Puppet3, then make Puppet3's background color transparent with the “Chroma Key” filter
5. Step 5: During the stream, switch mascots with Alt+0–9, and return to the default mascot with Alt+- (the minus key on the top row)
