📖 What is UD Talk?

A communication support app that captions conversations in real time via speech recognition, with automatic translation too. Available on iOS, Android, and the Amazon Appstore, free even for commercial use (paid plans exist for businesses/events). Over 1 million downloads, adopted by 1,000+ organizations. Showing captions on your stream needs a workaround like window capture, since there's no direct OBS integration.

💡 When to Use It

Lets you put real-time captions on your stream screen so viewers who are hard of hearing or watching without sound can still follow along. In a collab stream, captioning your co-streamer's voice too can help make things easier to hear. Channels with a lot of overseas viewers can also use automatic translation to show English captions. Since it's free to use even commercially, it's worth trying on a single phone first and then working out how best to bring it into your stream screen.

🚀 How to Use

  1. Step 1: Install the UD Talk app for free from the App Store, Google Play, or the Amazon Appstore.
  2. Step 2: Create a 'talk' in the app, start speech recognition, and check that your voice is captioned in real time.
  3. Step 3: Share the QR code or talk key so co-streamers or viewers can join the same talk and see the captions.
  4. Step 4: To show captions on your stream screen, open the web display feature in a PC browser and capture it with OBS's 'Window Capture' or a browser source (there's no official OBS integration).
  5. Step 5: Correct frequently misrecognized proper nouns with word registration, and enable automatic translation if you need captions in multiple languages.
