📖 What is OBS Background Removal?

A free OBS plugin that uses AI to remove the background from your webcam feed without a green screen. You can choose from several segmentation models such as SINet, MediaPipe, and Robust Video Matting, and besides making the background transparent it supports background blur and video correction for dark rooms. Runs on Windows, Mac, and Linux, and can lighten the load using the GPU (CUDA / CoreML). Open source under GPL-3.0.

💡 When to Use It

Use it when you want to stream with your face on camera for game streaming or work streams from a room with no space for a green screen. You can cut out just yourself and overlay it in a corner of the game screen like a facecam, or blur the background to hide your living space during a chatting stream. Even for night streams with weak lighting, the correction model can make your face look brighter, and you don't have to buy a physical backdrop cloth.

🚀 How to Use

1. Step 1: From the official site (royshil.github.io/obs-backgroundremoval) or the GitHub Releases page, download and install the installer for your OS (Windows x64, macOS, Debian/Ubuntu)
2. Step 2: Restart OBS, right-click your webcam's “Video Capture Device” source, and open “Filters”
3. Step 3: Click “+” under Effect Filters and add “Background Removal”; everything except the person becomes transparent
4. Step 4: Fine-tune the edge of the cutout with “Threshold (しきい値)”, “Contour smoothness (輪郭の滑らかさ)”, and “Contour feathering (輪郭ぼかし)”, and raise “Background blur factor (背景ぼかし係数)” if you want to blur the background
5. Step 5: If it runs heavy, lighten the load by reviewing the segmentation model, the inference device (GPU), and “Calculate mask every X frames” under “Advanced settings (詳細設定)”
