📖 What is Waveform (OBS Audio Spectrum Plugin)?

An OBS plugin that draws the frequency spectrum of an audio source on your stream. Add the "Waveform Visualizer" source, point it at your mic or background music, and it renders a curve, bars, stepped bars, a level meter with an RMS mode, or an experimental waveform, while Radial Layout bends any of them into a circle. The three-colour gradient, FFT size and smoothing are all adjustable. Free and open source (GPL-3.0) for 64-bit Windows, macOS and Linux on OBS 27 or later.

💡 When to Use It

Perfect for karaoke streams and DJ sets where you want bars dancing along the bottom of the screen in time with your voice or the music. Because it reacts to mic level, it doubles as a quick check that your audio is really going out. On radio-style or chatting streams where the picture barely moves, dropping a Level Meter beside your character art adds motion to the layout. For ASMR or study-with-me streams built around sound, it also helps viewers notice their own volume problems.

🚀 How to Use

  1. Step 1: Grab the Waveform Windows installer (setup.exe), the macOS .pkg or the Ubuntu .deb from the GitHub releases page (on Flatpak OBS, run flatpak install flathub com.obsproject.Studio.Plugin.waveform).
  2. Step 2: Close OBS before installing, then restart it and check that Waveform Visualizer now appears in the source "+" menu.
  3. Step 3: Add the source, choose your mic, desktop audio or a media source for background music under Audio Source, and set the size with Video Width and Video Height.
  4. Step 4: Pick the look with Display Mode (Curve / Bars / Stepped Bars / Level Meter / Waveform), Render Mode and Channel Mode (Mono / Stereo), then match your layout using Base Color, Middle Color and Crest Color.
  5. Step 5: If the motion feels too fast or too sluggish, tune FFT Size, Temporal Smoothing and Inertia, and turn on Hide graph when audio is silent so it disappears during quiet moments.
